The War to End All Wars
Hitler and his Nazi Party joined forces with Italy and Japan to conquer as many countries as possible and increase their power. The Nazis were torturing and killing people. While Americans sympathized with the people in Allied countries that were being invaded, America didn't get involved in WWII until the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. America felt that the Japanese were getting revenge for the way they were treated. The Japanese people were put into concentration camps where it was often too cold
in the winter and too hot in the summer. The food was mass produced
army-style grub and the interns knew that if they tried to flee, armed
sentries would shoot them. It was not until 1988 that
the U.S. government attempted to apologize to those who had been interned by
awarding each surviving intern $20,000.
